NSDCA Santa Handicap Results

Last night's Santa Handicap was a resounding success, organised very efficiently by David Hulme and very well attended, with 24 players taking part from Alsager, Cheddleton, Crewe, Fenton and Newcastle. After the mayhem had died down it was David Price of Crewe who was the winner with a score of 5.5, including his handicap. Joint runners-up were Kasian Capatina and Brian Birchall, both of Fenton, and Simon Layhe of Crewe, all with 5 points. Simon was awarded the runners-up prize as the lowest graded player. A wide range of graded players, from 175 down to below 50, participated in what we hope will be an annual NSDCA event.

NSDCA Santa Handicap

It's not too late to get your entry in for the Santa Handicap at Crewe Chess Club on Wednesday 30th December. Entry fee is £1, with the proceeds going to the league.

Perry Trophy - 1st Round

Just when we thought the 2015 fixtures were finished, Meir decided to re-arrange their postponed Perry Trophy match for last night. Due to a lack of available/eligible players the match was only played over 3 boards, with Meir 'A' taking the honours. They will now play Newcastle in the Semi-Final on the 17th February.

North Staffs Doubles

The North Staffs Doubles tournament at Holmes Chapel yesterday was another success. The 320 Section was extremely close, with defending Champions Alex Richardson and Steve Emmerton leading by half a point going into the last round. However, after the dust had settled it was Colin Davison and Phil Cattermole of Macclesfield who took the title by half a point, with a total of 6.5/10, so many congratulations to them.

There was more daylight between the winners and runners-up in the 230 Section, with Stuart Hull and Mike Smith of Fenton taking the title by 1.5 points, with a total of 7/10, so very well done to them also.

Depleted County U120's Beaten

The Staffs U120 team were only able to raise 9 players yesterday for their match against Notts. Notts themselves were minus 1 player so the match was played over 11 boards, with Staffs defaulting on the bottom 2. The result was a 6-5 win for Notts, although on the boards that were actually played Staffs came out on top by 5-4. Click here for the match score card.

Preston Chess Congress

Congratulations to Julian Hawthorne of Kidsgrove on finishing joint 3rd in the U120 Section in last weekend's Preston Chess Congress with a score of 3.5/5, just half a point behind the joint winners.
