2018/2019 Season Comes To A Close
All of the 2018/2019 League and Cup matches have now been completed. The last match on the fixture list is the UK v EU match next Monday. Following this, the grading files for the season will be submitted to the ECF, with the exception of the grading file for Club internal competitions, which will be submitted towards the end of June as we are still waiting on the Crewe and Kidsgrove competitions to be completed.

Jackson (CountyU141) Cup
Newcastle beat Meir by 2.5 - 1.5 in the Jackson Cup Semi-Final on Wednesday evening to set up a Final against Cheddleton, on a date to be agreed. Click here for the match score card.

Crewe Congress
This year's Crewe Congress will now be held over the weekend of 27th/29th September. More details as they become available.
Delancey UK Chess Challenge - Staffordshire Megafinal.
This is the County Championships of the Delancey UK Chess
Challenge which has been operating throughout the UK for 25 years. The
Staffordshire one has been held for each of the last 17 years at St. Edward's
Academy, Leek. In recent years the chief arbiter of the event has been
Matthew Carr. The boy champion of each age group is called the Supremo
and the girl champion is called the Suprema. Those who have qualified to
play in the next stage - the Giga Final are marked with a q.

2nd Crewe Rapidplay Congress

County Teams Reach County Championship Semi-Finals
Congratulations to both the County U100 and U120 teams on reaching the Semi-Finals of the County Championships.
They both recorded wins over their Norfolk counterparts on Saturday afternoon, with the U100 team winning by 7.5 - 4.5 and the U120 team by 7 - 5.

The U100 team will now be at home against Lancashire in their Semi-Final on the 8th June and the U120 team will be at home against Essex, also on the 8th June.

RIP Brian Walden
You may have read in the news recently about the death of Brian Walden the TV presenter and former Minister in the Wilson Government. However, you may not know that he was the Staffordshire Chess Champion in 1948 and played for West Bromwich in the Birmingham League.
Cheddleton Through To 3rd County Cup Fnal
Cheddleton beat Lichfield by 4-2 in the Hickman Cup last night to reach their 3rd County Cup Final of the season. They will play Walsall Kipping in the Final. Click here for last night's match score card.

Crewe Add Division 5 Title To Their Honours List
Crewe have added the Division 5 title to their long list of honours this season. A 3-1 win by Crewe 'E' against closest rivals, Cheddleton 'H', on Wednesday gave them the title by a margin of 4 points. Many congratulations to them on an outstanding season which has seen them win Divisions 2, 3 and 5, plus the Major and Intermediate Cups, and Runners-Up spot in the Perry Trophy.

Cheddleton Through To 2 County Cup Finals
Cheddleton are through to the Final of both the Withnall Trophy and Jackson Cup following wins in Wednesday's Semi-Finals.
They beat Lichfield by 2.5 - 1.5 in the Jackson Cup and will now play either Meir or Newcastle in the Final. Click here for the match score card.

Fenton Win Gothard Cup
Fenton have won the County U161 Gothard Cup following a 2-2 draw against Sutton Coldfield last night. Board count also failed to separate the 2 teams so the match was decided on board elimination. Click here for the match score card.

4NCL Results
It was a below par weekend for our two clubs, Cheddleton and Holmes Chapel, in the final rounds of 4NCL Division 3 North.
Saturday saw them play each other in Round 9, with Cheddleton coming out on top by 3.5 - 2.5. Click here for the match score card.
Sunday's Round 10 saw the both suffer heavy defeats, with Holmes Chapel losing 5-1 against 3C's '2' and Cheddleton losing 4.5 - 1.5 against Manchester Manticores '2'. Click here for the match score cards.
Monday's Round 11 was a slight improvement in the match scores, although both teams eventually lost by a narrow margin. Cheddleton were beaten 3.5 - 2.5 by Manchester Manticores '3' and Holmes Chapel were beaten by the same score by Spirit Of Atticus 'B'. Click here for the match score cards.
The final league table saw Cheddleton finishing 7th and Holmes Chapel finishing 11th, out of 14 teams. Click here to view the table.

Change Of Club Night For Newcastle
Newcastle's club night is changing to a Friday from the 21st June. The last Wednesday meeting will be on the 12th June.

NSDCA Cup Finals
There were three Cup Finals played at Crewe last night, with the host winning two of them.
Newcastle won the Perry Cup on board elimination, following a 2-2 draw against Crewe Perry 'A'.
Crewe won the Intermediate Cup with a comprehensive 4-1 win against Cheddleton.
Crewe won the Major Cup on board count, following a 2.5 - 2.5 draw against Meir.
Congratulations to the winning teams.
