Chess At The Pub
3 of us from Fenton made the trip down the M6 to the Black Country Arms in Walsall last night for one of Robert Bellin's free lectures. Robert is an International Master and ex-British Champion. His talk was centred around the life and games of Siegbert Tarrasch and his relationship with his peers, in particular Wilhelm Steinitz and Mikhail Chigorin. The talk was interspersed with a very informative demonstration and discussion of a couple of his games. Robert's deep knowledge and obvious love for the chess of this period shone through and made for a very enjoyable evening. I would urge anybody who is able to make it to get down to the next lecture which is scheduled for Tuesday 23rd August. The venue itself is first class and the free sandwiches provided by the very welcoming hosts were an added bonus !! Click here for more details of the venue.
