Despite the efforts of Storm Dennis the Newcastle Mini congress went ahead at the weekend. There were joint winners for both the Under 160 and Under 130. Petru Floresc (Fenton) and Harry Gardiner (Crewe) shared the Under 160 with 3.5 out of 5. The under 130 was shared between Julian Hawthorne (Fenton) and Lukasz Michalek (Crewe) both with 4 out of 5. The Under 100 completed a near clean sweep for Crewe with Joseph Bussell winning all of his 5 matches despite his choosing to promote a pawn to a rook in the final game.
Thanks and congratulations are due to Alberto Gissi for running the event, and thanks to Jon and Sandra Blackburn for the refreshments.
