There were a handful of NSDCA players in action at this weekend's Shropshire Congress - Nic Wright (Newcastle), Julian Hawthorne (Kidsgrove), Les Hall (Crewe), Stuart Hull, Ernie Wilkinson and Derek Whitehurst (all Fenton) all played in the Minor Section, with Nic being the most successful with a score of 3.5/5 to finish joint 7th out of 55 entrants, closely followed by Julian with 3/5 to finish joint 14th.
Doug Barnett (Crewe) and Rich Wiltshir (Kidsgrove) both played in the Major Section, with Doug finishing joint 10th on 3/5 and Rich finishing joint 13th on 2.5/5, from a field of 39 entrants.
The Open Section was very strong this year, with 5 GM's and a handful of IM's and FM's entering. True to form it was a 5 way tie between the GM's and, as GM Keith Arkell plays for Cheddleton in the 4NCL, I think we can stretch a point and claim him as one of our own !! Jacob Boswell of Cheddleton was also playing in the Open and, despite playing against much higher graded opposition, scored a very creditable 1.5/5.
